Job Description

The Brookstone Coffee Shop exists under the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture to provide a warm and welcoming space where God is glorified and people can linger and connect, both during the week, and on Sundays. The coffee shop manager’s responsibilities are to run smooth day to day operations; bake some product; keep the kitchen organized and neat, following all Department of Agriculture guidelines and regulations; keep track of inventory, and to motivate volunteer staff to provide excellent customer service.

Reports To

This position answers to the Executive Pastor, and the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications

  • Availability to work within open hours Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 – noon (open 8-11) and Sundays 6:00AM – 1:30 (open 7-1). 25-30 hrs per week.

  • Customer service attitude – welcoming customers as well as communicating in a gentle, but direct way with staff who are volunteers.

  • Food Handler certification

  • Have a basic understanding of sales tax regulations and technical skills to make full use of Square for POS.

  • Minor baking skills or the ability to learn – taking prepared items from freezer to oven as needed.

  • Computer skills to order product. Will be using Walmart, Sam’s and Amazon websites heavily for ordering.

  • Basic understanding of church family communication to help promote coffee shop

  • Occasional needs outside of regular schedule to be open for special events (no more than 2 per year)

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

Expectations and Job Duties

  • Operations

  • Opening/closing coffee shop, setting up and breaking down counter, turning on and shutting down coffee machines and Square system

  • Cuttting and plating pastries for display cases and baking some items from freezer for display case.

  • Use and understand Square system to set up POS and add items, and generate reports to assist Supervisor in financial management.

  • Know how all of the equipment works, cleaning/maintenance schedule.

  • Periodic deep cleaning of kitchen – wiping down fridges, dusting coffee counter, vacuuming “vents” on ice machine and coolers, etc.

  • Launder kitchen towels at least once a week or more as needed.

  • Put out post to church family as needed to promote coffee shop and menu.


  • Volunteer Management

  • Contact new volunteer prospects and onboard them depending on their level of interest

  • Train new volunteers on basic food handling practices, drink preparation, and how to use all equipment safely and properly

  • Be ready to correct and encourage volunteers on proper techniques as needed

  • Maintain serving schedule for all volunteers and communicate weekly with team


  • Inventory

  • Manage inventory and place orders through Walmart, Sam’s, Amazon and other sites, coordinating with vendors as needed, while keeping costs at a minimum.

  • Pick up Walmart order weekly

  • Print/order signage as needed to update seasonally.

  • Keep coffee counter stocked with paper goods, and other supplies

Salary

Salary will be paid twice a month and will be commensurate with experience and
the requirements of the job.
